Arequipa and volcano Misti
Arequipa – Colca Canyon 3 days / 2 nights
You can get to Arequipa from Lima, Cusco or Puno. From Lima we recommend you take a flight, it only takes 40 minutes. The journey from Cusco to Arequipa by plane takes 30 minutes, and by bus 12 hours. From Puno to Arequipa (by bus) takes 6 hours
Day 1: ARRIVE TO AREQUIPA
If you travel to Arequipa by bus, you will spend all day in the bus, and get to see first the beutiful valley leading from Cusco to Juliaca, then the Altiplano and finally the descent to Arequipa. This is a 12 hour trip.
If you choose to travel by plane, you can spend the afternoon sightseeing in Arequipa, which has quite a few interesting sites to visit, and is nicknamed “The White City”. The night will be spent in a 3 star hotel in Arequipa. All transfers are included.
Day 2: Two day trip to Colca Canyon
Santa Catalina Monastery
We leave at 8am in the morning to travel through the snow-capped mountains of Chachani and Yura. We will pass through a small valley with thermal springs and the national Pampas Cañahuas resereve where we can view Vicuñas, Llamas and Alpacas. During the trip you will also get to see birds such as Flamingos, ducks and Andean Eagles. We will then reach the volcano observatory and see the snowcapped mountian of Patapampa (4,800m above sea level). Here we will visit the towns of Ampato, Sabancaya, Walca Walca and others including the capital of the Chivay valley where we will stay for the night in Colca Inn, or another hotel of the same category. In this town we will enjoy the Calera thermal springs (entrance per person approx. $3 USD or ten soles).
Day 3: Colca Canyon
We will begin early, after breakfast we begin an excursion along the river on the left hand side of the valley and visit beautiful and typical towns such as Maca and Yanque. Here we will see colonial churches and local people wearing typical hand-made clothing of
the region. You will also see hundreds of Inca agricultural terraces that were and still are used for growing Corn, Quinua and Kiwicha. At the observation point Cruz del Condor we will appreciate the depth of the canyon and if we are lucky we will be able to view the magnificence of the Condors flying above the canyon. In the afternoon we will return to Arequipa at approximately 6 p.m. This will be the end our tour. Here you can decide whether to stay another night in Arequipa or continue on your journey.
